We collect as little data as possible. Responsible for the processing of your data on this website is Sudden Forest UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Normannenstraße 1-2, 10367 Berlin, Germany, hello@suddenforest.com.
Cookies and consent
This website sets cookies for one purpose only: measuring our advertising with Meta (see “Meta” below), and only if you accept that in the dialog shown on your first visit. If you decline, or have not chosen yet, no cookie is set and nothing is loaded from Meta. Our visitor statistics and the newsletter signup work without cookies.
Your choice, either way, is stored in your browser for 12 months so that we do not have to ask again; remembering it is strictly necessary for that and needs no consent (Section 25(2) TDDDG). You can change your choice at any time, also via “Cookie settings” in the footer.
Hosting
This website is hosted on Firebase Hosting, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Whenever you open a page, your browser automatically sends technical data to the server: your IP address, the date and time, the page you requested, the page you came from, and your browser and operating system. We need this data to deliver the website and keep it secure. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is a secure website that works.
Google processes this data on our behalf. We do not keep these server logs ourselves and have no access to them. Google uses them only to deliver the website and to protect it against misuse, and deletes them according to its own retention periods.
Google may also process this data in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission has confirmed an adequate level of data protection.
Visitor statistics
To learn which pages are read and how visitors find us, we use Plausible Analytics, a service of Plausible Insights OÜ, Västriku tn 2, 50403 Tartu, Estonia. Plausible works without cookies, stores no personal data, and does not follow you across other websites or devices.
Plausible records the page you visited, the website you came from, your country, and your browser, operating system and device type.
When you sign up for the newsletter, Plausible also records that a signup took place, without your email address.
It likewise records whether you accepted or declined the cookie dialog, again without identifying you.
To count visitors per day without recognising anyone, Plausible briefly combines your IP address and browser information with a value that changes every day and turns this into an anonymous code. Your IP address is never stored, and the daily values are deleted after 24 hours. All data stays in the EU, on servers in Germany.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is to learn what our visitors are interested in so we can improve the website. You can find more information in the Plausible data policy.
Meta (measuring our ads)
We advertise our game on Facebook and Instagram. To see whether those ads bring visitors and newsletter signups, and to improve how they are delivered, we use an advertising measurement service of Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, Merrion Road, Dublin 4, D04 X2K5, Ireland (“Meta”). It is loaded only after you have accepted it in the cookie dialog; without your consent, no connection to Meta is made.
Once accepted, Meta sets the cookies _fbp and _fbc in your browser (valid for up to 90 days) and receives your visits to this page, including its address with any campaign tags it carries, the fact that you signed up for the newsletter, a hashed, unreadable form of your email address at that signup, the identifiers from those cookies, your IP address, and information about your browser and screen. Meta may link this to your Facebook or Instagram account to attribute your visit or signup to one of our ads, to optimise the delivery of our ads, and to show them to people with similar interests. We only ever see aggregated statistics. How Meta uses the data for its own purposes is described in the Meta Privacy Policy.
The legal basis is your consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 25(1) TDDDG. For collecting this data on our website and sending it to Meta, we and Meta are joint controllers pursuant to Art. 26 GDPR; the Meta Controller Addendum sets out our respective responsibilities, and Meta is the point of contact for your rights regarding its processing. After receipt, Meta processes the data under its own responsibility. Meta may transfer the data to the USA; Meta Platforms, Inc. is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future via “Cookie settings” in the footer or by changing your choice here; nothing more is sent to Meta, and we delete its cookies from your browser. More information: Meta's cookie policy and the Meta Business Tools Terms.
Fonts
All fonts are loaded from our own server. Your browser does not connect to Google Fonts or any other font service.
Videos
Our Tidewind trailer is a YouTube video. The short, silent preview loop is served from our own website; nothing is loaded from YouTube until you choose to watch the trailer with sound. Only then is the video loaded from youtube-nocookie.com, a service of Google Ireland Limited, which receives your IP address and may store information in your browser. By starting the trailer, you consent to this pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can find more information in the Google Privacy Policy.
Your rights
You have the right to know which personal data we store about you (Art. 15 GDPR), to have it corrected (Art. 16) or deleted (Art. 17), to have its processing restricted (Art. 18), and to receive it in a common, machine-readable format (Art. 20). Where we process data on the basis of our legitimate interest, you can object at any time (Art. 21). You can withdraw any consent you have given at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3)). To do any of this, simply write to hello@suddenforest.com.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one responsible for us: Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit, Alt-Moabit 59-61, 10555 Berlin.
